Murdoch Developmental Center is a state residential facility for individuals with Intellectual Disabilities/Developmental Disabilities, located in the Butner, North Carolina, near Research Triangle Park. Murdoch is a caring community where professionals work with people of various ages, cognitive, and functional abilities . Position is responsible for the complete maintenance of over 80 acres of Murdoch Developmental Center’s grounds. Duties include line trimming, raking leaves, mulching, tree cutting and trimming, weeding, pruning, and general clean-up. Grounds employees provide extra manpower for other assignments as required. This employee supervises the work of inmates from the minimum security prison. Employee will be performing heavy work exerting approximately 100 lbs. of force and 40lbs. of force frequently. The work schedule is 7:30am- 4:00pm M-F. Employees are subject to being called back during inclement weather. Occasionally there is weekend work that cannot be done during normal work hours. Anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2013.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

Experience in tractor, bobcat, backhoe, lifts, pole saw, pruners, chain saws, twin –axle vehicles, power lawnmowers. Applicants must have worked in grounds and landscape business two years or more.

Preferred: Applicants with High School Diploma, three years experience in grounds and landscape business

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education and/or experience in the performance of a variety of manual tasks that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to one year of experience.
