NYIT seeks a highly motivated Global Communications Reporter/Writer to develop and carry out a strategic global communications plan that includes a range of projects encompassing traditional and new media, public relations, and reporting. He/she will develop and share key messaging internally and externally to enhance NYIT’s brand and reputation as well as write global-themed news and profiles of students/faculty/staff achievements at NYIT campuses in New York, China, the Middle East, and Canada. The Global Communications Reporter/Writer will be responsible for developing marketing/promotional materials for global campuses and exchange programs; developing and/or monitoring each campus’ web presence and establishing methods for maintenance and updates; monitoring and participating in culturally appropriate global and regional new media; writing news articles; gathering photography, information, and research from global campuses and other sources; hosting foreign visitors; and developing/coordinating collateral materials and gifts for events and visits.
The person in this role will develop materials for regional accreditation visits and institutional events such as graduation and conferences; maintain a fact book for each global campus and its surrounding area; arrange once-a-month videoconferences with global campuses; support administration with preparation for foreign travel, including remarks, PPT presentations, gifts, collateral, media outreach; partner with events director and participate in planning committees for NYIT’s global events; work with media relations to develop strategic media/PR plans for each campus; participate in the institutional incident management committee; translate English-to-Chinese and Chinese-to-English communications, ranging from news articles to conference materials and speeches to online posts.
The global communications strategist will be responsible for ensuring that global campuses develop brand elements and messaging reflective of NYIT’s institutional identity, including signage, advertisements, and logo usage; creating media lists of global and regional publications in order to develop strategies to elevate the NYIT name in the global marketplace; and coordinating brand integration while respecting cultural differences. Some travel required.
A bachelor’s degree with 8-10 years of global communications/marketing experience and superior writing ability is required. Also required: MS Office Suite (inc. PowerPoint); HTML/web content development and management; AP style; basic photography skills and Photoshop; and demonstrated fluency in Mandarin/Simplified Chinese. Experience in media relations including global media monitoring/delivery systems is helpful.
