JOB TITLE: Grants Specialist

REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Grants Management

JOB GOAL :

To develop and write well-researched, well written, and well-documented grant proposals and applications to foundations and corporations that ensure the Advancement team achieves its annual fundraising goals; and to manage the Grants team’s knowledge management processes and systems to ensure quality and efficiency.

ILLUSTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Responsible for the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals and applications to foundation and corporate grantmakers
    • Prepare – research grantmakers to determine areas of interest and assist with the development of stewardship strategies; coordinate with campus and Home Office staff to collect all necessary data, prose, and attachments; and write the grant and develop the budget
    • Submit – ensure all grants are submitted on deadline and provide support implementing stewardship strategies
    • Manage – manage follow-up activities for awarded grants, including acceptance letters and written agreements; ensure compliance with all grant requirements; and prepare periodic and final reports
  • Responsible for Grants team’s knowledge management processes and systems
    • Manage Raiser’s Edge donor database, including entering and monitoring grant awards; updating grantmaker records; generating and analyzing fundraising reports for both internal and external audiences; and identifying ways to translate data into actionable information
    • Manage prospect research and analysis of both grantmakers and individuals to develop fundraising strategies
    • Manage grants calendar, ensuring all grants, reports, and other documents are recorded, monitored, and submitted on deadline
    • Create and update tables, charts, graphs, and other illustrations to enhance quality and persuasiveness of grants and reports
    • Manage catalog of institutional data, prose, and attachments for grant writing and reporting
    • Collaborate with campus and Home Office staff to collect data, prose, and attachments
    • Maintain electronic and manual files, and perform other administrative tasks
  • Other
    • Collaborate with and support other members of the Advancement team toward achieving the overall team goals
    • Additional duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution
  • Certification from proposal writing course(s) (preferred but not required)
Experience:
  • Minimum two years grant writing experience OR evidence of writing experience obtained in another field (e.g., English teacher, communications or public relations work)
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge donor database software OR another donor database software (preferred but not required)
  • Experience facilitating meetings and managing projects
  • Experience working in deadline-driven environment

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
  • Frequent prolonged and irregular hours of duty

COMMITMENT AND COMPENSATION :

Length of Work Year:

Year-round position; evening and weekend commitments also will be required

Domestic Travel:

5%
