Do you believe in the power of storytelling and visual media to move people to action? Would you like more experience as a designer or to add to your portfolio?
We’re looking for a talented graphic design intern to work with our External Relations and Communications teams to produce simple but effective materials that convey the power and importance of our work. You’ll be working on everything from posters to web banners, from one-pagers that summarize areas of our work to event invitations. If you have web design skills, you may also be designing new web pages. Additionally, you’ll help out with administrative tasks and on our social media platforms. One of the world’s leading design firms, Pentagram, produce most of our design work on a pro bono basis so you’ll be working under the umbrella of their creative vision for WITNESS.
Design printed and digital materials as needed;
Edit previously created materials using Indesign;
Updating social media sites as appropriate;
Drafting and editing content for external relations communications including (but not limited to) newsletters, email appeals, donor communications, etc.;
Assisting with database entry and supporting the External Relations and Communications staff as needed.
All interns are expected to spend between 20-30% of their time engaged in administrative support.
Potential interns should be undergraduate or graduate students (or recent graduates). Candidates should have the following qualifications:
Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator);
Excellent design skills;
Strong communication and organizational skills with a focus on attention to detail;
Resourcefulness, ability to take initiative, and to work both independently and as a team are vital;
Knowledge of basic HTML and familiarity designing for the web is preferred, but not required.
We require a minimum of two months commitment, for at least 15-18 hours a week. Internships are unpaid. Our offices are located in Brooklyn, NY, convenient to the Barclay Center and Atlantic Terminal (2, 3, 4, 5, B, D, Q, N and R trains) and C (Lafayette) and G (Fulton) trains.
