POSITION SUMMARY:
This senior staff position, based in Houston, will report to the Drilling Engineering Team Lead. The primary responsibility will be to provide detailed cost estimates, well design and well engineering on significant deep water wells in the Gulf of Mexico. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for providing operational support to the Drilling Superintendent while the well is drilling.
ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Detailed well planning for exploration, appraisal and development wells. Well designs for both dry tree and sub-sea tree applications will be required.
Generation of detailed time and cost estimates for well designs
Risk identification and mitigation
Ensuring compliance with Hess standards and applicable legislation
Provision of engineering support during drilling operations
Post well performance evaluation and close out.
Qualifications
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Exploration, appraisal and development drilling experience
Deepwater and Gulf of Mexico experience
EXPERIENCE:
At least 10-15 years of drilling experience with a minimum of 3 years of deep water Gulf of Mexico drilling experience.
Majority of the Drilling experience carrying out detailed well design work
Proven track record in well design, casing design, directional drilling, drill string, Annular Pressure Buildup, BHA design and contingency planning
A high degree of computer literacy in MS suite as well as Industry casing and well design software
Exposure to risk assessment and probabilistic cost estimation
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (a team player)
Self starter and actively engages with business units
Ability to develop ideas and work with minimal supervision
Commitment to HSE principles
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
A degree in Engineering, preferably Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering
