Two (2) Regular, Part-Time (49% FTE), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), Hawaii Institute of Geophysics and Planetology (HIGP), Humu’ula Groundwater Research Project (HGRP), located in Hilo, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MINIMUM HOURLY RATE: $9.23/Hr.
DUTIES: Assists in the execution of scientific exploratory core-drilled bore holes. Assists the Center for the Student of Active Volcanoes (CSAV) Field/Data Manager and the Lead Core Archive Assistant & Petrological Specialist in the processing, photographing, describing, documenting, and archiving of geologic core samples. Assists in cleaning and assembling the core samples, describing and recording their physical characteristics and mineralogical make-up, and entering data into a computer database. Helps prepare core samples for long term archival and storage.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalent with two (2) years of successful college-level coursework in Earth Sciences or a related field. EXPERIENCE: Up to one (0-1) year of experience with Hawaiian geology and/or mineralogy or related geology. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Familiar with common Microsoft Office software, such as Word, Excel. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Able to commute to field locations. PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
: Able to routinely lift and carry sixty (60) pounds of rock samples.
