Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth (LIGALY) is seeking a full-time HIV Prevention Program Coordinator to be based at The Center at Bay Shore. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for expanding the HIV Prevention Program, which works to build community, develop and grow a cadre of young leaders, and change negative social norms in order to ultimately stop the spread of HIV. This program serves young gay and bisexual men, ages 13-24, with targeted outreach to young men of color. The HIV Prevention Program Coordinator is supervised by the Director of HIV Prevention Services.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The HIV Prevention Program Coordinator serves four main roles:
Delivery of HIV Prevention Programming and Services:
Recruit, engage, and train cohorts of young gay and bisexual men utilizing established evidence-based program models
Facilitate a social support group for young gay and bisexual men of color and their friends
Facilitate an advisory group comprised of young gay and bisexual men to build leadership and solicit feedback to evaluate existing programs
Providing HIV/STI Testing Services
Provide HIV Rapid Testing as well as confirmatory testing when appropriate
Deliver Counseling, Testing, and Referral (CTR) services
Conduct STI screenings
Conducting Outreach to young gay and bisexual men
Participate in outreach and testing events within the organization and at community venues
Identify, recruit, train, and supervise a team of youth Outreach Workers
Conduct outreach and deliver community outreach education workshops at schools and community settings
Assist with HIV Prevention program monitoring and evaluation
Conduct and collect evaluation measures with program participants
Perform data entry of statistics and demographic information as needed
Maintain program participants’ information, including all necessary documentation
Participate in staff meetings, supervisions, trainings, and conferences
Perform other related tasks and duties, as assigned
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in human services, social work or other related field preferred, or equivalent work experience;
Experience working with GLBT individuals and/or individuals in high-risk HIV transmission categories;
Commitment to and knowledge of the GLBT community;
Experience implementing a DEBI model such as POL and/or 3MV preferred;
Flexible work schedule, as this position requires working some nights and weekends;
Bi-lingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred;
Certified, or willingness to become certified, in HIV Counseling, Testing, and Referral (CTR);
Phlebotomy training or willingness to become trained;
Excellent computer skills and experience, experience with the AIDS Institute Reporting System (AIRS) a plus;
Strong written and verbal communication skills;
Reliable transportation and a valid driver license as this position will require travel throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties on Long Island;
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide range of people and flexibility;
Strong organizational skills for handling multiple tasks at once.
