An electrician's primary objective is to achieve the safe, reliable, and environmentally sound operations of their assigned areas through pro-active maintenance, adherence to established procedures and good practices, development of the ability to anticipate problems in advance and response to problems quickly, and adaptation of a culture of continuing improvement.
Use of electrical safety equipment such as ammeter, ohmeter, infrared camera, digital multi-meter and voltage tester
Electrical schematic readings, read P&ID
Removal, installation, use and theory of bearing types
Isolate and repair overhead pole lines
Connect surge protectors and lightning arrestors
Electrical switches - air and auto
Transformers - clean brushes, filter/replace oil, oil testing
Check trips and connect primary and secondary transformers
Cable splicing - types, cutting, stripping, taping, grounding, pouring connectors, forming cable for splice, Hi pot testing
Pulling wire, hand, tugger
Synchronous motors - exciter, field test, etc.
Switch gear - starter, breakers, overloads, infrared, wire, etc.
Repair low voltage circuits, AC and DC
Motor circuits - push button, wire, switch gear, pressure, vibration, switches
Motor repair - install and maintenance
Maintain cycle circuits - wiring, fuses, resistors, relays
Switchgear - rack breakers in and out, check relays, Meg, clean, pull breakers
EOV's - install, troubleshoot, maintenance
Understand conduits and conduit hardware
understand wiring terminology
OSHA electrical codes, State codes, NFPA 70E
calibrate a pneumatic, electronic, or digital transmitter
calculate circuit loads

Education and Experience
2 or 4 year technical degree in Electrical technology and minimum 5 years field experience
Possess an electrical license (state or degree)
NCCER Certification is preferred
