Instructor/Lifeguard is an hourly, year-round position. Under the supervision of the Aquatic Supervisor and/or Recreation Supervisor, the person in this position will organize, lead and teach specialized aquatic activities; observe swimmers, protect life, prevent accidents, enforce regulations and do related work as required.
Conduct American Red Cross swimming lessons ranging from Parent/Child Aquatics to Learn to Swim Level Six. Promote participation, provide information on programs available, and enforce required safety rules and regulations. Rescue persons in distress and render first aid. Assist in conducting special events and in the maintenance and operation of aquatic facilities.
Possess current certificates in American Red Cross First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) or above; CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (CPR-FPR), Lifeguard Training, and Water Safety Instructor. Equivalent training certificates will be accepted if approved by the County of San Diego EMS authority.
Experience & Education:
Should have one summer of part-time experience as an instructor and lifeguard.
$11.50 an hour rate only applies when teaching swim lessons.
