There is a part-time (hourly) Business Systems Technician position available in the City of Carlsbad’s Library & Cultural Arts Department. This position may travel to and work from all three library locations: Carlsbad City Library on Dove Lane, Georgina Cole Library, and Library Learning Center.
The desired work days and hours for the position are expected to be Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Hourly positions are not benefited and cannot exceed 980 total hours worked within one fiscal year.
Applicants will be notified only if selected for an interview and will be required to submit a current DMV record. As conditions of employment, the City of Carlsbad verifies eligibility to work in the United States, and conducts a Department of Justice LiveScan Fingerprint report.

Key Responsibilities:

The position will work under the direction of the Library & Cultural Arts Department Sr. Business Systems Specialist and perform the following functions:

Assist in data analysis that will be used in reporting to the department’s various stakeholders.

Assist in documenting processes and in creating support documentation.

Assist in the daily maintenance of the department’s various technology solutions.

Assist in testing the functionality of department applications, hardware, and/or updates and enhancements to existing systems.

Assist in implementing and/or upgrading the Library & Cultural Arts technology solutions.

Other related duties as assigned.


The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to be successful in the position of Business Systems Technician:

Have excellent communications skills; both oral and written.
Have experience with library based system solutions including: library automation, PC and print management, and radio frequency identification.
Function with minimum guidance and have good project management skills.
Think critically, troubleshoot, and resolve problems related to the business systems.
Analyze business processes and suggest ways to improve efficiency.
Have experience working in large and diverse groups.
Maintain a valid California driver's license and a clean driving record.

Experience & Education:

The equivalent of an Associate in Science degree in Library Technology, an Associate in Arts or Science degree in Computer Science, and/or a Library Technology Certificate from an accredited college or university in addition to related experience is preferable.
