This is a newly created role with responsibility for both the HR & Safety functions at the facility. Responsibilities will include:
Administer established policies and procedures in the areas of employment, safety, training, benefits, employee and labor relations, union grievance administration, and other general plant activities.
Screen and interview and job candidates for hourly labor. Process all pre-employment testing and verifications as required by policy.
Conduct new hire employee orientation and safety training programs.
Update and maintain HRIS and hard copy employee records, maintain attendance records,
Manage temporary agency relationship and place orders for temporary labor as needed.
Conduct or coordinate training as required by policy, legal compliance or practice.
Act as translator with Spanish speaking employees and for company memos, rules and procedures.
Conduct routine plant safety inspections in compliance with federal, state and company requirements
Schedule and/or conduct; monthly safety meetings; quarterly Corporate Insurance safety inspections; forklift operator certification; fire safety training.
Conduct and document safety incident investigations, and maintain plant safety and Workers Compensation records on employee accidents, OSHA 300 Log and other pertinent documents.
Prepare data and reports as required by the Corporate Safety and Risk Management department.
Working in conjunction with Corporate Safety Manager will update established Safety Programs related to Federal, State and Local laws, regulations and safety codes as changes to such regulations occur.
Stock safety equipment such as earplugs, safety glasses, chums, absorbent pads, etc.
Complete special health and safety projects as assigned; i.e. emergency preparedness, special training activities, etc.
Remedy violations as they are identified by conducting on the spot re-training and working with line management in the issuance of disciplinary actions such as suspensions and termination recommendations.
Responsible for shutting down any production line, if necessary, where safety rule violations are occurring to correct violations; authorizes start-up of production line once corrected.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualified candidates will have:
3-5 years Human Resource experience, preferably in manufacturing environment.
Knowledge of applicable state and federal employment law.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Bilingual in Spanish and English.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and work experience.
