Coeur Alaska is recruiting an HR Generalist for our Kensington Gold Mine, located 45 miles north of Juneau, Alaska. We are seeking a talented candidate who is motivated to work safely and proficiently to achieve company goals and objectives and will inspire others to do the same.

Essential Functions:
  • Position will focus on recruitment and retention, workforce development and training, employee relations, and compensation and benefits; which involves planning, developing, recommending, and implementing HR activities, policies, procedures, and programs.

  • Ensures proper and timely recruitment activities for Coeur personnel including creation of job descriptions, requisitions and recruitment advertisements; partners with state employment agencies and professional recruiters as needed.
  • Administers and maintains performance management program, ensuring timely completion of all performance evaluations.
  • Assists supervisors with employee relations issues including performance evaluations, promotions, administration of discipline and performance improvement plans; conducts exit interviews.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, job fairs, seminars, and similar events as required or directed.
  • Facilitates training program(s).
  • Conducts new-hire orientations; monitors newly-hired/newly promoted manager transition and career path programs.
  • Serves as company liaison and employee advocate with third-party benefits administrations.
  • Maintains HR Information System records and compiles reports from database.
  • Maintains company organization charts.
  • Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
  • Maintains departmental compliance with all local, state, federal and company rules.
  • Demonstrates required behavioral skills including productive communication, cooperation, productivity, initiative, creativity, dependability.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned. This position may require occasional work on nights or weekends.
This position has a schedule of four (4) ten hour days each week, and the incumbent should reside at the Kensington mine site three of those days.

While performing the duties of this job, employees may be frequently required to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time; use hand and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; regularly required to talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision requirements for this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Employees may be frequently exposed to underground work environments; outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold, extreme heat, potentially hazardous wildlife; moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; explosives and vibration. The noise level in most work environments is usually very loud. This position may require work on nights, weekends and rotating shifts; shift schedules may require residency in on-island camp during work rotations.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR Management or other related discipline, or
  • Six (6) years exempt generalist level HR experience, or
  • Combination of education and qualifying experience.
  • HRCI Certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR), or
  • Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), or
  • Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR).
  • Knowledge of current employment law, and applicable state and federal laws and requirements, as well as human resources policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of recruitment and staffing processes, and workforce development.
  • Advanced skill in operating personal computer using a variety of computer software.
  • Effective oral and written communication to include interpersonal and interviewing skills, involving sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Skill in managing multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with teams.
  • Mining industry experience.
