Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
This position is being recruited for at the Journey Competency Level in the Career Banding Program. The hiring range for this position is $46,107-$49,104 and the salary grade equivalent is 66.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position will provide professional consultation in human resource best practices to an assigned division/center cluster within the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. The selected candidate will serve as the HR Specialist to a division/center (s), holding full responsibility for organizing and managing the HR processes. This includes EPA/EPA NF, SPA and Temporary employees. This position reviews recruiting policies and procedures and makes recommendations to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and best practices; provides resources and referral information to appropriate offices; provides guidance and serves as a subject matter expert on HR matters. This position is responsible for interpreting, implementing, and disseminating personnel policies and procedures that are both complex and routine. The selected candidate will consult with hiring managers on developing job descriptions, search strategies and assist with developing a specific recruitment plan and will facilitate employee background and credential checking. He/she will conduct weekly meetings with Executive Assistants and attend monthly division/center meetings. The selected candidate will support the faculty ARPT process: this includes initiating, evaluation and facilitating all aspects of recruitment, appointment, promotion and reappointment. Occasionally, he/she will conduct new hire orientation, and will support teamwork and collaboration on special HR projects and initiatives. ESSENTIAL SKILLS: Professional knowledge of principles and best practices in HR programs and knowledge of the related business contest as it applies to the unit is required, as is experience in client consultation and establishing/maintaining collaborative professional relationships. The selected candidate must use critical thinking skills and must be able to analyze the entirety of a situation, despite pressure, ambiguity, risk and unknown outcomes. Demonstrated effective use of verbal and written communications is essential to the position, as is program and/or project management to include identifying and developing objectives, methods and quality control measures and tasks action to improve process and program results. The selected candidate must be flexible and available to interact with employees at all levels, must be self-directed and motivated, and must take initiative to identify and anticipate client needs and make recommendations for implementation. Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills are required, as are excellent verbal and written communication skills. The expectation for all new hires is that they have a working knowledge of all Microsoft Office products, as it pertains to their position, including PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, and Excel. It is expected that upon hire that HR Specialists are to maintain a level of proficiency related to these products. It is required for all new SPA Staff to complete one Training and Development Learning Module in a given 18-month period. The learning module and tracks (Fundamental Courses vs. Advanced Courses) for this position with a sequence of completion will be shared during the onboarding process. It is expected that each staff member complete the required modules for their given position within six years of the start of their first course. This requirement is in compliance with the schools new Strategic Initiative, specifically Strategic Initiative Six entitled "Our People" that requires documentation that 100% of staff participate in at least three days of School- or UNC-based learning opportunities or skill development each year.

Preferred Qualifications:
Three years or more of professional-level human resources experience in an academic setting is preferred. Experience in client consultation and some combination of the following HR disciplines preferred: recruitment & hiring; classification and compensation; employee relations; benefits and work/life programs. Working knowledge and experience of current UNC HR systems strongly preferred. Accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with faculty and staff is preferred. Prefer experience and knowledge with Infoporte. PHR certification is a plus.
