L-3 STRATIS has an exciting and challenging opportunity available for a Hardware Technician supporting a major system modernization effort for the Department of Homeland Security - U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
In this role, you will develop and apply methods, theories, and research techniques in the investigation and solution of advanced communication system requirements and problems supporting networks, protocols, network components, design elements, and architecture.
Assist in performing system installation and setup of hardware equipment
Establishes and maintains hardware supporting the operation of computer systems in a networked or standalone configuration
Perform troubleshooting and deployment of components, modules, and policies
Identify and analyze all or part of a component's existing or new peripheral, network, and telecommunications systems requirements, taking into consideration any special technology needs
Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments as related to computer hardware
Maintain the existing system by analyzing, designing, and implementing changes to the system so the changes meet the specified requirements
Work with other engineers, systems analysts, programmers, technicians, scientists, and top-level managers in the design, testing, and evaluation of systems
Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations, and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes
Adhere to and maintain operational procedures
Conduct investigations and tests on communication systems
Review completion of implemented communication system additions and/or enhancements and make recommendations to management
Provide assistance in implementing systems and technical support services
Perform refinement/modification of operational and system support documentation as related to hardware implementation, changes, or updates
Work effectively as part of a team and seek to support the team's goals above individual goals
Respond in a timely and appropriate manner to support requests
Escalate issues when problems or issues arise that are outside of normal scope of area
Excellent organizational, documentation, and communication skills with the ability to express ideas clearly and effectively (verbally and written)
Participate in gate reviews, client meetings, and tiger teams on an as-needed basis
Prepare and deliver presentation materials for readiness reviews on an as-needed basis
This position is contingent upon contract award, customer approval, and/or position availibility.
Experience in service operations, system configuration, and working with problem management tools
Demonstrated knowledge of platform operating systems (router platforms, LAN, WAN, and router protocols) and how the hardware interacts with the network
Ability to troubleshoot technical hardware related problems in a critical high availability area
Extensive interdisciplinary knowledge of current technologies
Comprehensive understanding of full life cycle software engineering processes, tools, utilities, and methodologies
Analyze infrastructure components to identify efficiencies and improvements
Maintain accurate documentation of systems
Strong diagnostic, problem-solving, technical, and analytical skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills, including the ability to integrate information from multiple sources
Experience in one of the following: Mainframes, Soap-Oriented Architecture, Client/Server, GUI and/or web-based technology
Experience managing infrastructure for a high volume, highly available set of applications
Ability to work comfortably in a high-energy, multi-vendor environment
Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment
Knowledge of client-server and service-oriented architects
A current, active clearance through Customs and Border Protection is highly desirable
Working knowledge of network technologies, such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, hubs, DNS, CWE WinInstall architecture and integration process
Professional certification is a plus.
Prior DHS experience is a plus
Knowledge of SELC, ITIL, ISO or related standards
Experience with biographic and biometric applications a plus
