This is a specialist position in a high-volume DMV regulatory unit responding to mail and telephone inquiries for service; responds to and provides guidance on routine, and complex licensing inquiries to DMV Customer Service Center and Customer Contact Center employees in addition to other internal and external customers via telephone, written, and Internet correspondence. Functions as a subject matter expert on current and upcoming CDL licensing provisions, and provides training on same to internal and external customers as required. Responsible for participating in the elevated review of complex licensing practices, particularly as they relate to the issuance of CDL hazardous materials endorsements. Performs all duties required to support the functions of the Driver Support work center. Stays abreast of current, new and upcoming requirements and initiatives required in order for the Commonwealth to maintain compliance with State and Federal programs. Participates, as required, in program initiatives and activities, including Federal and State training programs, and CDL Program Reviews. This position is responsible for assisting unit staff with the more difficult work processes pertaining to driver license, commercial driver's license, National Driver Register (NDR) and the Commercial Driver License Information System (CDLIS). Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of business English and mathematics.; abilility to perform detailed work independently using prescribed procedures; collect, research and analyze data, organize and act on materials in accordance with established procedures. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, abilities and experience in providing customer services in a comprehensive and timely manner.Ability to interpret, explain and apply complex materials such as the Virginia Motor Vehicle Code, Code of Federal Regulations, rules, regulations and policies and procedures pertaining to DMV services and licensing practices. Demonstrated keyboarding and computer skills with experience related to personal and mainframe computers, utilizing the Microsoft suite of software, mainframe database, and associated peripheral equipment. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally, and in writing in a manner that reflects an in-depth understanding of the subject matter, and is grammatically correct.Demonstrated ability to maintain effective and courteous working relationships with other agencies, administrations, courts, schools, business entities, DMV employees, and the public.Must be available to work until 5:30 pm as dictated by department need. Must be available to work on Saturday on a rotating basis.
