Girls Track & Field - Head Coach

The Track & Field Head Coach position is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to student athletes and assistant coaches within the program.

The Head Coach leads their staff to produce competitive teams that adhere to character expectations at Woodbury High School.

The Head Coach works closely with the Activities Director to determine goals and direction of the program.

The Head Coach

coordinates the selection, instruction, training, and conditioning of all athletes at all levels in the program.

The Head Coach is responsible for the health, safety and welfare of every student athlete participating in the program.

The South Washington County School District, Principal and Athletics/Activities Director of Woodbury High School

place an expectation not only on the skills, abilities and commitments of its coaches, but also on their integrity and collective common sense in performing their duties.

Major Areas of Responsibility

:

  • Adhere to Activities Department/District Rules and Regulations (board policy, handbook)
  • Cooperate/collaborate with coaches of other activities, administration, and Activities Office
(summer schedule, school year schedule, court and facility use)

  • Coordinate entire 7-12 program (camps/clinics, youth association, Boosters)
  • Identify Program Goals and Future Needs - Proactive and Comprehensive planning/communication
  • Implement Effective Off-Season Training (multi-sport, school-year w/coordinator, summer camp/clinic)
  • Academic Performance - demonstrate value, concern, and monitor student-athlete and team progress
  • Health and Safety - promote proactive approach
  • Develop Individual and Team to Fullest Potential
  • Sportsmanship - coaches/athletes demonstrate high level of respect for opponents, officials, facilities
  • Teaching/Coaching Principles - utilize sound and best-practice teaching/coaching techniques
  • Motivation - instill spirit/sustain motivation for all develop intrinsically-motivated environment
  • Practice Development - well-organized, challenging, using team-specific diverse techniques
  • Game Strategies - develop game plans and adjust accordingly in game situations
  • Role Model - present self as positive model in conduct and language with participants/community
  • Communication with Student-Athletes (respect, roster decisions, role definition, discipline, diverse mediums)
  • Communication with Activities Office (proactive, high-quality, timely with concerns, celebrations, deadlines)
  • Parent Relationships - communicate effectively with parents and Boosters (meetings, web, phone/email)
  • Community and Campus Involvement (involved on campus in other roles, in community, state/national)
  • Media Relationship - promote team and individuals (local, metro, state), quality and timely approach
  • MSHSL, Section, SEC Regulations and Timelines - independently know/comply with expectations
  • Activities Office Expectations (Quality, Timelines) - independently know/comply with expectations
  • Equipment and Facilities - invest quality time/effort into inventory/maintenance
  • Budget - understand process, implement vision and planning (AD, Boosters, Capital Outlay)
  • Rapport with assistants before, during and after coaching season - engage, develop, evaluate
  • Accept coaching and constructive criticism and/or recognition with maturity
  • Parent packet, student handbook - written rules of coach's expectation for student participation
  • Show good judgment in coaching responsibilities and decisions
  • Appropriate/professional dress at practice and games
  • Professional Development - Associations, Clinics, Certifications, Studies

March 11, 2013 to June 8, 2013

Preferred:
5 years Successful Head Coach Experience

Required:
MN coaching certificate or completion of the NFICEP

Experience as Head Coach or Lead Coach

Growth mindset and commitment to student-athlete development

Acute knowledge of and passion for the sport
