Administers first aid to sick or injured students according to School District and State guidelines. Determines whether students should remain in the health office. Accompanies student along with principal to medical care facilities in the absence of a parent.
Observes students for emotional, behavioral, psychosomatic, and non-medical needs and make referrals to the District Health Nurse as necessary.
Maintains current health and accident information on students and completes and updates related reports, records, charts and logs.
Performs miscellaneous clerical duties for the health office including data entry, typing, filing, handling telephones, and inventorying and ordering supplies.
Administers medications authorized by a physician and in compliance with State guidelines; observes student for medication reactions. Advises food service staff of food allergies and restrictions of students.
Provides special medical care, such as, conducting blood sugar analysis through finger pricks, administering physical therapy consistent with treatment plans and assisting handicap students with special medical and hygiene care.
Reports health status of students to District Health Nurse, staff, bus drivers, and
parents as required.
Assists in health, vision, and scoliosis screening and re-screens as necessary. Conducts screening for height, weight and lice and informs parents of prescribed treatment methods as required.
Performs related duties as apparent or as assigned by District Nurse and/or Principal.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Prior medical setting experience desirable.
Must have current CPR and First Aid certifications.
Strong organizational and data entry/computer skills.
Desire and ability to work with children.
