OVERALL SHORT DESCRIPTION

Under limited supervision, the Informatics Analyst performs data acquisition validation, warehousing, and analysis of data, with particular focus on survey, case review, medical and prescription drug claims, eligibility, and related absence, disease management, and disability data. The Informatics Analyst also assists in designing statistical analysis plans, and defines case selection criteria and variable parameters. Initially, the Informatics Analysts primary project responsibility will be analytic support of the Arkansas Data Mining and Program Evaluation activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Develop and write SAS computer programs, modify and interpret primary analyses, conduct secondary and exploratory analyses, assist in the development of appropriate statistical models, determine sample sizes, manipulate complex databases, and track and evaluate patterns of health care and outcomes.

Verifies and ensures the accuracy of all assigned tasks, including the documentation and validation of SAS and other programs. Identifies problem areas and develops solutions, working with team leadership.

Responsible for generating reports supported by tables and charts and variable text.

Upon request, performs critical review and synthesis of the health care literature.

Attends and participates in Informatics team, project, staff and training meetings. Ability to make presentations and communicate project results to staff. Represents HSAG in a professional manner at all times.

Office/Technical Work - In this position, the employee is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS/COMPETENCIES

Ability to use and sit at a computer terminal for extended periods of time.

Ability to work independently with minimal direction.

Ability to communicate face-to-face and through telecommunications and written correspondence with individuals using the English language.

Ability to understand presentation information.

Ability to travel occasionally by motor vehicle and/or aircraft.

Ability to adhere to established company confidentiality policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors degree in public health, epidemiology, related social science, business, economics, mathematics, or statistics required. Masters Degree in the same or related field preferred.

A minimum of one (1) year of recent experience in manipulating databases and performing data analysis using SAS.

Understanding of information systems.

Experience with relational databases, SQL, and other reporting tools.

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to handle several projects simultaneously and work with multiple teams.

Some experience in managing projects, including identifying requirements, determining priorities, and tracking and resolving issues.

Ability to type 50 wpm with minimal errors.
