Position Summary:
Responsible for operating heavy equipment and other vehicles for the purpose of excavating, processing, compacting municipal solid waste (MSW) on a daily basis. Also, responsible for the efficient operation and care of assigned equipment.

Essential Job Functions:
-Maintain safe and efficient operation of an equivalent CAT 826 or 836 Compactor and/or an equivalent CAT D-6 and D-8 dozer continuously for a period of 9 hours daily.
-Maintain the functionality, appearance and safety of the work area or facilities in compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations.
-Excavate and haul cover materials for construction.
-Build, grade and clean roads and parking areas to maintain appearance and safety.
-Build run on/ run off beams to control water runoff.
-Maintain safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment.
-Perform pre-trip/ post-trip vehicle inspections and complete daily work sheet for equipment operated.
-Keep work location and vehicle in order.
-Resolve customer inquiries.

Preferred Knowledge, Abilities & Skills:
Education/ Experience:
-2-4 years experience with a variety of landfill equipment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-Considerable knowledge of safety standard practices governing the operation of landfill equipment
-Considerable knowledge of the principles, operation and servicing of heavy equipment
-Skill to operate controls for required equipment
-Ability to operate an equivalent CAT 826 or 836 Compactor and/or an equivalent CAT D-6 and D-8 dozer continuously for a period of 9 hours daily
-Ability to properly use, operate and care for tools, equipment and materials
-Ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to equipment
-Ability to read and understand operator’s manual

Physical Tasks & Working Conditions:
The incumbent works primarily in a vehicle; with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. 8-10 hours drive time on a daily basis in all weather conditions. Must possess sufficient vision to accurately read written and typed documents.
