Histocompatibility and Immune Evaluation Laboratories are part of the Division of Immunology and Organ Transplantation in the Department of Surgery of UT Medical School at Houston. The laboratories are mainly supporting Memorial Hermann Hospital Solid Organ Transplant Center. This center performed the first liver transplant in Houston and the first pancreas transplant in Texas and participated in ground-breaking studies involving the use of the life-saving immunosuppressive drugs cyclosporine and rapamycin. In order to meet the transplant program growth and requirements, we have position opening to HLA laboratory technologist.
Within 12 months under the supervision of senior lab personnel, the laboratory supervisor, and/or the laboratory director, the incumbent must master and complete training in serology, molecular, and flow cytometry assays; draw blood from control subjects as necessary, and advance to on-call capabilities and responsibilities.
Bachelor's degree in a biological science or equivalent in a related field.
Level II - requires two years of experience as a Histocompatibility Technologist
Perform immunogenetic testing related to the field of solid organ transplantation, employing techniques such as CDC, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, DNA (Molecular) analysis for HLA typing, HLA antibody detection and T/B cell crossmatches. Participates in quality control monitoring and evaluation of data. Adheres to departmental safety policies and laboratory SOP.
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelors Degree in Biological related fields, or MT (ASCP) or credentialing as Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) or Specialist (CHS) preferred. Demonstrated excellence in verbal, written and technical skills.
