Catawba County Social Services, an innovative entity with a supportive environment, is recruiting for hourly Teaching Parents to work as needed in residential services. The Teaching Parent manages and delivers treatment services, by providing an appropriate adult role model in a therapeutic group home, to children who are in the custody of the Department of Social Services as well as children with a history of juvenile delinquency who are in the custody of their parents. These hourly Teaching Parents will work as needed/as requested.
- Provides appropriate adult role model in a therapeutic group home · Develops and manages a secure and clean home environment in which youth can attain personal self-sufficiency in problem solving · Development and implementation of weekly treatment plan for each youth using techniques of behavior management and behavior modification within the guidelines of the Teaching Family Model · Provides counseling to and for the youth regarding personal behavior, conflict resolution, and situation crisis · Teaches social skills, self-care skills, home maintenance skills, problem solving skills and study habits · Involves consumers and/or families in the treatment process · Carries out responsibilities in a team approach in coordination with other group home staff members
Graduation from a four-year college or university, preferably with a degree in a human services field, and one year of experience performing similar duties and/or working with children similar to the ones in the group home plus professional Teaching Family Model Certification; OR high school graduation and three years of experience performing similar duties and/or working with children similar to the ones in the group home plus professional Teaching Family Model Certification; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience plus professional Teaching Family Model Certification. Applicants must possess the Teaching Family Model Certification in order to be fully qualified. However, trainees may be accepted.
- A valid Driver’s license is required. · Employee must accept sleep time exclusion agreement. · This is considered light work; no lifting over 20 pounds.
