Serves as initial point of contact for clients seeking benefits either by person, by phone or mail. May interview applicants; provides information regarding various programs and benefits, policies and procedures; assists clients in completing applications; performs searches in various databases and provides information to Intake Workers. Evaluates applications to determine entitlement to expedited services; schedules client appointments with Intake Workers; and makes referrals to other programs and agencies. Serves as back up for case numbering & setting records for services and eligibility. Serves as back up on a rotating basis to the front desk receptionist and to the EBT vault card issuance clerk Processes outgoing mail, incoming pouch and makes client copies as needed on a rotating basis. In times of emergency, may be required to work mass shelters .
Knowledge of policies, procedures and basic eligibility requirements for benefit programs or the ability to obtain the knowledge. Knowledge of general office policies, practices and procedures. Knowledge of office software applications to include word processing, spreadsheet, automated calendars and email. Skills in the use of modern office equipment to include personal computers, copiers, fax machines, and multi-line phones. Knowledge of case numbering within the Dept. of Social Services Legacy System or the ability to obtain that knowledge in order to set up case files. Ability to communicate orally with clients in person and by telephone. Abilility to plan, prioritize and organize work assignments accurately within established timeframes. Ability to work with others in stressful situations while maintaining composure, using tact and courteousness in order to accomplish tasks. Ability to establish manual and automated files and records and to retrieve data from automated files and databases.
Prefer previous work experience in a local Department of Social Services in the areas of screening, case numbering or EBT vault card issuance. Prefer experience with Agency related software. Prefer knowledge of basic eligibility requirements for benefit programs.

The investigation may include: fingerprint checks (State Police, FBI), local agency checks, employment verification and references, verification of education (relevant to employment), credit checks (relevant to employment) and other checks requested by the hiring authority.
Employee must be willing to work in the community emergency shelter in the event of a natural disaster or emergency.
