Position is responsible for instrumentation and controls design at the National Carbon Capture Center (NCCC) in Wilsonville, Alabama. The NCCC is a large-scale operating pilot facility demonstrating carbon capture and advanced coal-based power generation technologies. Responsibilities may include controls troubleshooting during plant operation. Design responsibilities include developing P&IDs, instrumentation application and selection, control valve sizing and material selection, preparation of detail design drawings and field packages, specification development, bid evaluations, participating in design and safety reviews, and assisting with checkout and startup of systems.
Job Experience and Education
Minimum of 10 years experience in instrumentation and controls design in fossil power generation or chemical process facilities required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Working knowledge of systems and equipment at an operating fossil power plant or chemical process plant is required.
Experience taking projects from conception through commissioning and startup is required.
Must be capable of managing small task force groups and coordinating projects with other disciplines.
Extensive experience with selection and generating specifications for instrumentation, including transmitters, switches, valves, and motors is required.
Experience with development of P&IDs, SAMA diagrams, binary logic diagrams, loop sheets, motor elementaries, interconnection/schematic diagrams, and ISA instrument data sheets.
Experience scheduling projects to meet desired milestones is required
Experience with AutoCAD in development of I&C, and electrical drawings is required.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications or demonstrated experience with similar computer applications is required.
Must perform well in a team environment and be highly motivated, with the desire and ability to learn new concepts and work with minimal supervision.
Must have good interpersonal skills, as well as good oral and written communications.
Ability to perform multiple projects simultaneously and to exhibit good time management and organizational skills is required.
Experience managing projects as an Electrical, Instrument and Control lead is preferred.
Experience with Foxboro DCS, and Allen-Bradley PLC’s preferred.
Knowledge and design experience with NFPA 497, 499, NEC Article 500 Hazardous (Classified) Area Class 1, 2, and 3, Division 1 and 2, and the National Electric Code is preferred.
