Edison Mission Energy ("EME") is an independent power producer engaged in developing, acquiring, owning, leasing, and operating electric generating facilities. Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of HV/ MV electrical switchyard collection systems for wind energy projects.
  • Insure compliance with industry safe work practices by Wind site employees and contractors
  • Perform safety related duties such as issuing or accepting work authorizations, hot work permits, confined space entry permits, etc.
  • Review specific work for site planned Outages. Insure work includes all time or condition based maintenance. Verify the availability/ accuracy of permits, LOTOs, contractors, test equipment, repair parts and tools
  • Be onsite during planned Outages to assist and supervise as needed. Follow contractor work progress. Insure unsatisfactory test results/conditions recorded are resolved, verified and addressed before contractor demobilization and restoration of equipment.
  • Review, assist and/or perform high voltage switching, and grounding using approved switching orders
  • Insure test reports are received by site management in a timely manner. Review reports and insure data is filed with past test results for that equipment.
  • Track site discrete relay calibration due dates for assigned sites. Supervise the implementation of Company procedures, EMG-3008 (Protective Relay Maintenance) and EMG-3011 (Substation Battery Maintenance) by contracted testing personnel. Insure final relay test reports are forwarded to corporate Electrical managers for database update
  • Service, troubleshoot and repair high voltage collective systems, including overhead power lines, underground cable systems, substation switching equipment, power instrumentation and transformer equipment up to 345kV.
  • Maintain drawings, specifications, test logs, state and national regulations, code requirement, and other records. Insure modifications made to site equipment is documented for future reference
  • Review site specific equipment manuals for maintenance and repair requirements.
  • Insure planned site work includes necessary tools, repair parts, consumable items, test kits and miscellaneous support equipment.
  • Maintain log books, work orders, procedures, timesheets, expense reports, requisitions and other documentation as required.
  • Instruct, train, and assist site personnel in safe work practices. Travel by automobile and commercial airlines will be required for training and other company business.
  • Support wind fleet throughout the US in areas of high voltage maintenance and troubleshooting. Ensure compliance to national/local electrical standards and company objectives.
  • Operate company vehicles including trucks, forklifts and other mobile equipment.
  • Perform plant housekeeping functions.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
  • Work rotating or alternate shift schedule and overtime as required.


  • Must have a general understanding of electrical power generation and distribution, and possess a thorough knowledge of high voltage collective systems including, overhead, underground and substations systems.
  • Must possess a good understanding of operating procedures, environmental and safety rules and regulations, and first aid procedures.
  • Must be skilled in:
    • The use of a variety of electrical test equipment and simple hand tools
    • Interpreting and following technical instruction furnished in oral, written, iagrammatic and schedule form.
    • Reading and interpreting blueprints, electrical diagrams, technical manuals and logic diagrams.
    • Performing mathematical calculations to analyze and solve problems related to control process
    • Using personal computers, test gauges, digital multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and specialized test equipment to test overhead, underground, and substation equipment
  • Specific areas of knowledge/ familiarity:
    • NFPA 70E and Arc Flash hazards
    • Proper use of PPE, ground equipment and switching equipment
    • Underground Cable fault detection and repair
    • Battery maintenance/ testing
    • Protective Relay purpose, operation, fault analyzing and event reports
    • Transformer maintenance, cooling, oil sampling and DGA analysis
    • Thermography- use and analysis
    • MV/ HV breakers and disconnect operation, maintenance and testing
  • Must successfully function as a member and/or leader of a team.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license. Class B, or Class A preferred. Proficiency in operation of an aerial lift truck for line repairs required.
  • Must be able to maintain a professional and positive company image and positive relationships with owners, customers, internal contractors and external contractors.
  • Able to work at heights greater than 250 feet.
  • Able to climb vertical stationary ladders inside wind turbine towers at heights greater than 250 feet.
  • Required to work in confined spaces that require employee to reach by stooping and/or crawling through tight clearances, or by lying down.
  • Routinely required to stand for extended periods of time and to walk over uneven surfaces such as loose rock, open grating, and up and down staircases.
  • Required to carry calibration tools and hand tools generally weighing up to 30 lbs. Instruments may be irregularly shaped, and can weigh up to 75 lbs. May be required to lift cylinders that contain high-pressured gases or compressed air, and are 4 to 5 feet in height and may weigh up to 75 lbs.
  • Repair responsibilities may include locating, isolating, switching, and grounding at voltages up to 345kV. When installing high voltage grounds, the employee will lift ground connections overhead on poles. Overhead work may require the employee to carry and move portable ladders and/or work from mobile equipment.
  • Employee may be required to work long periods of time on a computer terminal.
  • Able to work in adverse outdoor weather conditions with summer temperatures greater than 100 °F and winter temperatures less than 0 °F.
  • Employee may be required to work flexible work hours.
  • Employee duties include extensive vehicular travel to/from sites within as well as travel to support other wind facilities throughout the US.

Approximately 50% outdoors, balance inside.

Overnight travel required


Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a formal apprenticeship program or equivalent combination of work experience and technical training required. Journeyman Lineman certification preferred.

Must participate and seek training in professional courses to enhance electrical proficiency and knowledge of safe work practices


Must possess a minimum of five years experience in the troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of high voltage collective and interconnection systems at a power generating facility, or similar industrial setting. Journeyman Lineman certification or equivalent preferred. CADA system experience preferred. Knowledge of Substation Protection Systems preferred
