Description DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Ops Modeling & Research Team’s Fall 2013 Internship affords an opportunity to participate in the development of a new, innovative operational metric for the airline industry—aircraft mechanical availability.

The Intern will assist the Team with developing capabilities for reporting operational information in meaningful ways, using an Object Oriented, Java-based approach. Work will include creation of Graphical User Interface to help with visualization of data.

Intern might also provide assistance with various active research projects concerning various aspects of Southwest's Operations.

Minimum Requirements BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

EDUCATION:

Progress towards Bachelors or Graduate Degree in Computer Science, Information System Management, Accounting, Finance, Management Science, or related field.

Minimum Junior level.

Must be enrolled as a fulltime student

Maintaining 3.0 or above GPA.

EXPERIENCE:

Experience in Java or C++ required, obtained in an organization or institution (beyond course work).

Familiarity with Unix/Linux operating system is a plus.

Familiarity with Open Office, Eclipse and JFreeChart is a plus.

Familiarity with SQL a plus.

Previous part time job or prior internship experience preferred.
SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/WORK STYLE:

Demonstrated ability in software application development and Graphical User Interface development, using Object Oriented methodology in Java or C++ in an Integrated Development Environment required.

Attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and the willingness to function as part of a Team.

Excellent time management skills required.

Oral and written communication skills required.

Self starter.
