DESCRIPTION

The IRB is seeking a motivated individual with administrative and leadership skills and an interest in understanding the policies, procedures and ethical issues concerning the protection of human subjects in research studies, to serve as an IRB administrator. The incumbent will report to the IRB Chair and IRB Administrative Director to provide analytical, technical and professional support to the IRB.

DUTIES

Primary responsibilities include analyzing protocols and records to ensure completeness and compliance with appropriate federal, state, institutional policies and IRB guidelines, managing components of the review process, attending Board meetings and assisting in the preparation of minutes and post meeting communications with researchers, composing clear and concise detailed correspondence to investigators, providing guidance to the NYSPI research community on IRB policies, procedures, IRB review requirements as well as status of ongoing reviews, serving as a liaison with technical staff to enhance IRB management systems, maintain and update the IRB website, web content and facilitate its use by investigators and IRB members.

QUALIFICATIONS

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Applicant must have strong analytical, time management and multi-tasking skills, superior written and oral communication skills, effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently, prioritize work and organize and manage a complex workload and demonstrated ability with computers and contemporary soft ware packages.

EDUCATION:
Master's degree and two to three years of professional experience serving as a member of a research team conducting research or other experience working in an academic medical center or medical school. Certification as an IRB Professional (CIP) is highly desired or will be required once eligible.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
2-5 years of experience and knowledge related to IRB issues and human subjects research protections. Prior experience in an IRB is not required but applicants should have a broad ability to understand medical and research activities and applying relevant federal, state, and local laws and policies. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
