POSITION PURPOSE -
We are seeking world-class talent looking to build a career with the world's largest home improvement retailer, operating more than 2,200 store locations in the U.S, Canada and Mexico. Specifically, your role in our IT HR/Payroll division of The Home Depot will be to lead project management activities within the department. This includes project management of projects, managing financial controls for the department, and mentoring/coaching other project managers in the department. This position will provide effective management of large IT projects or oversee the management of multiple smaller projects by applying or ensuring the application of a standard, defined methodology to the project, and providing the leadership skills necessary to control the execution of the project tasks, as defined in the methodology. The senior project manager is also responsible for status reporting and overall project management activities for the department. This person will lead 6-10 project managers and/or project analysts and provide coaching/mentoring to them.

The senior project manager is responsible for delivering several key project artifacts, and shares responsibility and accountability with the project leadership team for the successful delivery of the entire project.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES -
Project Planning. Leads the short term project planning effort, including the formulation of the project scope, definition of the project deliverables and the required delivery dates, creation of a logical work breakdown structure, definition of major project milestones, accumulation of all project cost and benefit estimates. Documents the project dependencies and ensures a viable work plan is created that results in the on time completion of the project.
Project Control. Develops or approves an effective plan for controlling the project scope, schedule and cost baseline, and monitors the project execution to ensure that the plan is being followed. Creates and
effectively coordinates or approves documentation to explain changes to the baseline, and ensures the
approved changes are implemented. Maintains or monitors logs of all submitted changes and their status.
Project Communications. Develops or approves an effective plan for communicating project information to the project team and to the project stakeholders. Develops written status reports, determines project status codes, and creates project review documents for senior management. Collects and documents project issues, and manages their timely resolution.
Project Risk Management. Leads the definition of project risks, and the required mitigation approaches.
Monitors project activities for the occurrence of risks, and takes timely action to mitigate the risk. Advises
project team members, stakeholders and senior management of actions required or completed.
Project Lessons Learned. At the completion of a project, captures lessons learned, and communicates
those to other project managers. Ensures lessons learned are effectively applied to subsequent projects.
Project Environment. Shares responsibility with the project leadership team for providing a good working environment. Ensures teams are staffed, duties and responsibilities are understood by everyone, and an inclusive environment is maintained.
Resource Management. Manages a team of Project Managers and/or Project Analysts. Ensures they are adequately trained, and performing at the required level. Responsible for guiding and directing the overall success of the 5M to 20M projects through associated staff.

NATURE AND SCOPE -
Typically reports to Program Manager or Director.
Accountable for direct supervision of the work activities of others. Planning, monitoring and reviewing work of subordinates is required. This may include direct supervision of a shift or the coordination of multiple work groups. Makes recommendations concerning selection, termination, performance appraisal and professional development.

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must pass the Drug Test.
Must pass the Background Check.
Must pass pre-employment tests if applicable.

EDUCATION REQUIRED -
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE - 5

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -
Good communication skills at all levels of the organization.
Attention to detail and focus on financial controls.
Experience leading large, cross-functional IT projects.
Experience managing other project managers.
