Persons in the IT Specialist II classification install and support computing or basic data communications/ telecommunications equipment and software and perform diagnostics of problems with that hardware and software. Persons in ITS II positions work under the supervision of a technical manager and are responsible for
Perform system moves and changes internally or via remote access and provides technical expertise in system modification. Troubleshoots, repairs, tests, installs, customizes, or maintains telecommunications components and implements corrective measures. Assist in designing new telecommunications systems. May review and prepare specifications for equipment or licenses.
Other functions as assigned.
Associate's Degree in related field and three years of related computing work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required: Prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by department. Knowledge of principles of computing and communications networks, and characteristics of computing hardware and software used in distributed environment. Ability to install and configure desktop computer hardware and software. Ability to install and configure basic data communications and or telecommunications hardware with some supervision with little supervision. Ability to assimilate, retain and utilize technical and applications-oriented information. Must be experienced in electronics or telecommunications installation and maintenance work. Documented formal education is desired with a minimum of 60 credit hours with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or a related field of study, and nine or more years of applicable experience. Education and experience may be substituted for one another.
