Reporting to an IT Audit Senior Manager, the Staff IT auditor / Data Analytics, will be responsible for assisting in developing and implementing a program to increase usage of data analysis in operational and financial audits. This position will deploy creative problem-solving techniques as applied to audit testing, and will participate in audit planning to develop analytic tests or join operational and financial audit teams at Marsh & McLennan Companies entities.
The multi-national businesses audited vary from employee benefits consulting services to complex insurance and reinsurance brokerage. Our audits vary in size and complexity from small field offices to large, regional data centers. Position provides future opportunities within audit or the company. A potential outcome of a successful program will be its extension to continuous auditing.
Marsh & McLennan Companies Internal Audit focuses on the "objectives, risks, and controls" perspective, derived from the original COSO study and related auditing frameworks. The ideal candidate will use data analysis to help our audit teams address risks associated with business objectives and evaluate the controls in place to mitigate those risks. This means understanding the particular business and its supporting IT to ascertain what data is available, how to obtain it, and work with the non-IT auditors to develop tests to meet their audit objectives.
Assist audit team in planning engagements that will use data analysis techniques to examine 100% of the data on file or as determined by the auditors
Obtain a detailed understanding of an entity's major systems, its IT environment and how best to develop testing for that location
Develop test plans to analyze, test and evaluate the entity's control environment
Conduct interviews with audit teams to understand their requirements and document results
Document conclusions; organize and reference workpapers for supervisory review
Participate in closing meetings at the end of fieldwork, providing clear explanations for the results of analytics as required
Actively pursue certifications and continuing professional education in line with the department's needs and auditor career development
Undergraduate degree in information technology, mathematics, statistics or related field
Minimum of 1-2 years information technology and/or audit experience
Solid understanding of operating systems and databases, such as UNIX/LINUX, Oracle and SQL database management systems, Windows Server, network security.
Knowledge of data extraction and analysis software, including IDEA, ACL, etc.
Some experience in business applications, such as Oracle Financials, Hyperion, PeopleSoft HR and Treasury, plus a number of legacy applications.
Ability to understand the relationship between information technology and business issues, and how to implement tests to analyze data on file
Interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment.
Solid analytical, problem solving, organization, and project management skills.
Experience in insurance, broking, or other financial services environment is desirable
Clear writing, good communications and effective presentation skills are essential
Desirable traits include enthusiasm, initiative, sound business judgement, and tact.
