Perform advanced network security tasks/processes in a complex, secure and challenging environment in support of a nationwide fiber optic transport network and two geographically separated network support centers.
Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot firewalls, Intrusion Detection/Prevention devices, VPN appliances, vulnerability assessment tools, event and log analysis, security change tracking and other network security systems and devices.
Installs, documents, and manages security software/system tools, configurations, and tests/verifies processes to ensure standard and secure implementation and use of systems, tools, and processes.
Provides inputs for installation of new security systems and procedures as well as modifications to current configurations.
Troubleshoot and analyze security software/system tools to ensure compatibility and integration with hardware systems.
React quickly and competently to identify, track, document, escalate, and resolve immediate network vulnerabilities/threats.
Customize security system software based on research and customer needs as appropriate.
Coordinate and facilitate communications with engineering and security departments and commercial vendors to identify, investigate and resolve security vulnerability matters.
Communicate status of security system, processes, ongoing malicious activity, and possible vulnerabilities with management and customers.
Act as technical lead on new security system initiatives or counter measures.
Remotely troubleshoot and repair network security tools/processes.
Respond to the escalation of trouble reports by isolation of problem and mobilization of resources capable of affecting a resolution in a manner which least disrupts customer service within acceptable security risks.
Provide after-hours support on an on-call basis, as required.
This position requires a Top Secret/SCI clearance with CI polygraph.
The responsibilities of this position will continue to grow as additional portions of the network are accredited and achieve operational status and as additional customer groups are added to the network.
Currently, the position supports the operation, management, and defense of a nationwide fiber optic transport network and two geographically separated network support centers.
The network is expected to sustain continual growth to include additional sites and customers across the life of the program.
Experience with IBM Blade Centers/Servers, Tipping Point IDS/IPS, McAfee Firewall and Host Based Security System, Sun Solaris servers, Cisco devices, and Ciena optical equipment required.
CISSP or equivalent certification required. MCSE and CCNA certifications desired.
Bachelor’s degree in an Information Technology field and three years experience or seven years applicable work experience
