Import/Export Analyst

Carrier InterAmerica (a subsidiary of Carrier Enterprise) sells and distributes residential, light commercial, commercial and heavy & applied Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) parts and products throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. We currently have an opportunity for an Import/Export Analyst located in Miami, Florida.

In this role you will be responsible for supporting the Import/Export Compliance Manager in timely reconciliation of all import and export activities with business groups and outsourced data. Minimal traveling required.

Job Responsibilities:
Candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Reconciliation of import and export activities to ensure all transactions are accurately captured and recorded in accordance to Customs and Border Protection regulations. Analyze data to guarantee filing deadlines and contents are strictly adhered to. Proactively assess potential gaps in meeting import and export filing and informational guidelines. Test for accurate classification of product supply.
  • Manage U.S. Treasury refunds (duty drawback, HMF, PEA) based on sharing agreements and broker contracts. Identify and recommend opportunities to eliminate or recapture CBP duties and fees by reviewing entry documents for FTA opportunities missed or initiated through filing a Post Entry Adjustment (PEA).
  • Conduct pre/post auditing of broker entries and participate in resolution of errors by filing post entry amendments with CBP.
  • Coordinate business groups and broker services to collect final accounting values for CBP 09 value reconciliations. Review all reconciliation documents prior to filing with CBP for accuracy and timeliness. Manage broker reconciliation activity.
  • Keep abreast of U.S. Governmental Export requirements and Import requirement of destination country.
  • Prepare various reports to support required record keeping and departmental requirements.
  • Assess the impact of regulatory changes and compliance initiatives.
  • Support US Export compliance via monthly audits and annual review.
  • Maintain special trade program documentation and compliance according to trade law.
  • Evaluate and determine eligibility for special trade Programs (DR-CAFTA, et al) based on program guidelines.
  • Serve as key reference for all internal departments regarding export documentation requirement.
  • Monitor outside broker performance and address any service issues & customs compliance issues
  • Assist in updating CIAC’s compliance policy and procedure manual.
  • Update and maintain critical data fields with our NxTrend system.
  • Warranty administration, includes but not limited to receiving, processing, analyzing rejecting and fulfilling claim requests.
  • Performs other duties as required/assigned by manager.
  • Education:
    We seek individuals with a AA/AS degree with 3-5+ years of experience, or an BA/BS with 1+ years of experience. Brokerage License exam ready desired.

    • Foreign Trade Zone experience desired.
    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with export transportation.
    • Working knowledge of Export regulations, carrier operations, and modes of transportation.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations (FTR), including: HS/Schedule B classification, Foreign Trade Agreements, Duty Drawback, Valuation, Certificate/Country of Origin and Marking requirement, entry documentation (i.e. CF 7501 & 3461), duty programs (i.e. 9801/9802)
    • Working knowledge of Incoterms 2010.
    • Understands trade compliance risk management
    • Knowledge of export Administration Regulations (EAR)s

  • Advanced MSExcel and MSWord skills required.
  • Effective interpersonal relations skills; customer focused.
  • Ability to gain cooperation from others and work autonomously.
  • Be forward thinking while focused on results.
  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills; assertive with excellent problem solving skills.
  • Ability to present to and effectively communicate with all management levels.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Spanish language knowledge desired.
