This is a full-time, temporary , benefits eligible position. One year in duration.
Minimum Education/Work Experience
-- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BAN or BSN) or clinical microbiology
-- Minimum of four (4) years of professional experience in nursing or microbiology.
-- APIC Infection Control and Epidemiology course
-- Experience in infection prevention in a hospital or health epidemiology.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
-- Computer skills in Word, Excel, Access
-- Strong public speaking skills
-- Registered nurses must have current licensure issued by the State of Minnesota Board
-- Certification from the Board of Infection Control within 2 years of hire preferred.
Work with the infection prevention director in the promotion and application of infection prevention measures to prevent and/or control infections among patients, employees and visitors. Facilitates compliance with requirements of The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Department of Public Health, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Department of Transportation (DOT) and others.
Consult on infection prevention issues focusing primarily on equipment management (cleaning, storage and maintenance).
Prevent and manage infectious agent exposures to health care workers, patients and the public to prevent the occurrence of health care acquired infections.
a. Participates in hospital quality efforts.
b. Acts a consultant on infection prevention issues focusing primarily on equipment management (cleaning, storage and maintenance).
c . Participates in infection prevention committees as scheduled, according to annual infection prevention plan.
d. Participates in construction projects with a focus on equipment management
e. Manages isolation of infectious agents and diseases in accordance with established policy.
Writes and reviews policies to create standards and directions for hospital staff.
a. Reviews and revises infection prevention and unit infection prevention policies and policies as needed focusing primarily on equipment management.
b. Incorporates standards and requirements from regulatory bodies (TJC, OSHA, JCAHO, CMS, DOT, CDC) into policies and procedures as needed according to the established protocol.
c. Implements strategies to influence practices and behavior (developing and delivering training) as scheduled and as needed on an ongoing basis.
Keeps up to date with computer technology to manage all the data utilized and collected by the department.
a. Develops and maintains computer databases, manage data, analyze data, and create reports on a daily basis in accordance to established policy and current needs.
Develops and delivers creative, mandatory and elective infection control competency based educational sessions (delivered in a variety of formats i.e. lecture, computer based learning, independent learning packets) to educate hospital staff, visitors and the public on infection prevention issues and policy.
a. Delivers Annual Required Training and special training as needed.
b. Participates in educational planning with nursing and other departments.
