The Principal role of the Collection Moving and Maintenance Assistant is to assist the Associate Dean of Administration and Collection Services in the diverse activities associated with processing and moving the Library's physical materials to the new Jerry Falwell library. A chief secondary role is to assist the stack maintenance staff in re-shelving, shifting, and shelf reading of the Library's collections. This position reports to the Circulation and Stack Maintenance Supervisors as delegated by the Associate Dean of Administration and Collection Services.
Work Study approved.
Ability to perform physical work which entails sitting, standing, walking, stooping, twisting, pushing, pulling, reaching, shelving, shifting, straightening, etc. (for long periods of time).
Must be able to tolerate dust or willing to wear respirators as conditions warrant.
Must be willing to wear ankle-supporting or high-top footwear, safety glasses, hard hat, and vest as construction site regulations may dictate.
Ability to push and pull book carts which can weigh approximately 200 lbs. when loaded; lifting and carrying loads of up to 50 lbs.
Ability to follow instructions in both verbal and written formats.
Demonstrable basic computer skills.
Ability to maintain attention to detail over long periods of time.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks at one time.
Previous library experience.
Knowledge of the Library of Congress Classification System.
Ability to navigate non-motorized pallet/duct jacks.
Ability to use screwdrivers, ratchets, and wrenches to disassemble/assemble shelving.
