Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 1, G-14 or in a position at the G-12 level or above that is eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 or in a title designated appropriate for Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law, such as Information Technology Assistant, G-12 or Senior Computer Operator, G-14. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in an advancement of more than two salary grades. Candidates reachable on the eligible list for this title will be considered through a canvass and do not need to apply.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Excellent interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication skills; must be able to work and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical coworkers.
-Excellent organizational skills.
-Experience leading and participating on project teams.
-Ability to lift heavy equipment (laser printer, computers, servers, faxes).
-Database design and support related experience.
-Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
-Experience using Microsoft 2000/2005/2008
-Experience with network topologies and architecture, including cabling, hardware and software.
-Knowledge of client/server technology, preferably in a health care environment.
-Experience with network diagnostic tools.
-Experience with Microsoft Server 2003 and above, and related products (SQL and Exchange), including server staging and maintenance.
-Experience in computer support, preferably in a networked environment.
-Experience with and support knowledge of Microsoft Windows XP and Windows 7 Professional, Office 2000, Microsoft Outlook 2000.
-Experience using and maintaining a system for tracking IS service requests.

The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description The Information Technology Specialist 1 (ITS 1) will assist in two support areas for all computer users at Helen Hayes Hospital (HHH): Network Assistance and Help Desk Support.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

-Assist an ITS 2 network assistant with network production support, system maintenance, and system management.
-Track inventory of PCs, software, printers, and fax machines.
-Provide limited training for users to optimize workstation resources.
-Assist network administrator in the development of network projects, including network software implementation, network management, local and wide area network, network operations, network and systems maintenance, cabling, and other related products and services.
-Perform installation and maintenance of PCs, software, printers and fax machines.
-Provide on-call support for all computer users.
-Maintain system to track requests, assignments, resolution, elapsed time to resolution, and appropriate classification codes to determine the type of request.
