Based on the current Property Claims Staff Model restrictions, this role is only eligible to internal Property employees.

Successful candidates will be responsible for handling first party property claims (structured) for Personal Lines and the oversight of independent adjusters who were retained to estimate Property losses in areas where we do not have any outside Property Claim resources.
  • Property interpret the insurance contract and accurately apply the exposures of the claim to fulfill our contractual obligations to the policyholder
  • Investigate all exposures and/or perils to determine cause, scope, and extent of damages and/or determine liability and possible subrogation potential
  • Property evaluate claim to determine the extent of exposure for purposes of setting reserves and making appropriate payment
  • Property document all claim activity to support the outcome of the claim file. Comply with all internal and external reporting requirements
  • promptly negotiate resolution of claim, mitigating damages to achieve cost-effective claim outcomes
  • Engage and use external resources judiciously to control allocated expenses to the claim file
  • Property utilize subrogation and salvage initiatives
  • Identify predictive indicators of fraud, perform background checks, coordinate with special investigators, report to external agencies and bureaus, and assist in identification of trends, perpetrators and patterns of suspicious or fraudulent activity. Utilize special fraud fighting systems and software in the investigation and disposition activities
  • Create high level of policyholder satisfaction by complying with standards for timeliness of contract, follow-up, payments, and Unfair Claim Settlement Practices Act.
  • Practice inclusive behaviors and help to create diverse work environment.
  • Use technology and other resources to achieve greater efficiency and better results
  • Perform other related job duties as directed or needed such as providing on-call duty and immediate response and service in emergency and catastrophe situations

  • Minimum 1-2 years experience adjusting personal lines party property (structural) claims. Candidates with previous claim adjusting experience will receive priority consideration. Commercial claims experience is a definite plus!
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
  • Ability to review and understand 1st party policy language
  • State of Connecticut Adjusters License or other state/jurisdiction licenses where needed
  • IIA, AIC, CPCU, SCLA preferred
  • Excellent customer service, negotiation, verbal and written communication skills along with strong teamwork skills required
  • Strong computer and keyboard skills
  • Strong spoken communication skills including an excellent phone manner
