The Department of Communication Studies invites applications for a tenure-track OR term appointment as Assistant Professor/ Instructor in the Electronic Media program. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the newly developed media leadership track that emphasize media industry trends and strategic media planning, plus courses in one or more of the following areas: (1) media writing; (2) media programming; (3) media sales and promotions; and (4) theory and/or application of emerging communication technologies. Responsibilities for the tenure-track appointment include a 3/3 teaching load (9 credit hours per semester) and serving as a liaison between the program and professional media organizations. Opportunities exist to teach graduate courses, direct M.A. thesis/research projects, and to mentor students in co-curricular activities. All members of the faculty are expected to participate in curriculum development, as well as department and university governance. In addition, each faculty member is expected to pursue individual scholarly/creative activity and professional service. Responsibilities for the term appointment include a 4/4 teaching load (12 credit hours per semester) and serving as a liaison between the program and professional media organizations.

Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Mass Communication or a related field is required for the tenure-track appointment. ABDs in Mass Communication or a related field with evidence of degree completion by August 2013 will be considered.
M.A. in Mass Communication or related field, or M.B.A. is required for term appointment.
Successful tenure-track candidates must demonstrate a commitment to professional development and have at least one year of professional media management experience.
At least three years of professional media management experience and a demonstrated commitment to professional development required for term appointment.
Experience in college/university level teaching and scholarly publication and/or creative record desired for either appointment.
