Description of the Position: Instructor or Senior Lecturer (this rank limited to faculty who have already earned this rank) position in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Responsibilities include serving as Program Coordinator in the Southern Region Early Childhood Programs with supervisory responsibility of Teachers and Family Educators serving three and four year old children in prekindergarten classrooms.

Requirements of the Applicant:

  • This internal search is limited to personnel on current assignment in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Southern Region Early Childhood Programs.
  • The position requires a Master's Degree in Education or Social Work and a Type 02 or Type 04 certificate, supervisory experience, organization and communication skill competency, computer skills, and a team approach philosophy.
  • Philosophical orientation consistent with developmentally appropriate educational practices as defined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
  • Contributions to professional organizations at the local, state, and national levels are valued.
  • This position is security-sensitive. Prior to an offer of employment, a pre-employment background investigation, which includes a criminal background check, will be required.

    Duties of the Position:

  • Provide supervisory oversight of teaching staff in classrooms and family programs.
  • Provide guidance and evaluation to staff on the classroom curriculum, assessment, and collaboration practices.
  • Maintain ongoing communication and serve as a model of early childhood professionalism through interactions with Director, other Coordinators, Superintendents, Principals, Teachers, Family Educators, and Office Staff.
  • Communicate high expectations of professional conduct to Teachers, Family Educators, and other staff members.
  • Coordinate annual Child Find efforts in collaboration with school districts, special education cooperatives, Head Starts, Child and Family Connections, childcare programs, community colleges, and other community partners.
  • Sustain an evaluation protocol for Teachers and Family Educators.
  • Participate in the annual performance review.
  • Maintain program documentation records and reports for the Illinois State Board of Education.
  • Assist with grant writing.
  • Demonstrate participation in professional activities.
  • Participate in training and/or university coursework as needed and required.
  • Perform other responsibilities as needed.
  • Appointment and Salary: This is a term appointment. Service in the position does not count toward tenure. This appointment is through June 15, 2013. Continuation in the position will depend on performance and the extension of funding by the Illinois State Board of Education.

    Effective Date of Employment: Appointment dates are open. Position vacancies will be filled as needs arise for the Academic Year 12-13.
