Upward Bound Programs are federally funded TRio programs that provide educational assistance, academic advisement, tutoring, college and career planning, and educational & cultural fieldtrips to low-income first-generation high school students. Our Upward Bound Programs operate a six-week academic program at Mission College, which is located in Sylmar, California. For six weeks students are involved in intense academic, motivational, cultural, and career activities. The most important aspect of the summer academic program is that participants prepare for the rigor of college study by facing academic challenges beyond those presented in traditional public high schools. Upward Bound participants receive a minimum of 160 hours of instruction in six-weeks and in most cases, earn credit for two semesters of a high school course.

Responsibilities :The Summer Physics Instructor:
Develops and plans a six-week summer course for high school students in accordance with California Content Standards.
Prepares and submits subject syllabi, weekly lesson plans, & weekly participant evaluation reports
Administers weekly assessments and assigns a midterm and final letter grade with a brief evaluation of participants' academic strengths, progress, and recommendations for further improvement.

Requirements:
Possession of a California Single Subject Teaching Credential
Minimum of two years experience teaching at the secondary level (6-12)
Familiarity working with low-income, first-generation high school students

Bonus Requirements:
Professional or personal experience in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting project participants
