Job Summary/Basic Functions
Specialty applying GIS to community development, resource management, or urban and regional planning. Teaching load is 12 credit hours in one semester (4 courses) and 9 credit hours (3 courses) in the other semester. Teaching responsibilities include introductory courses in GIS and remote sensing; introductory geography courses; and advanced courses fitting the candidate's specialty. Includes 1 course reassignment for assisting with management of Department's Laboratory for Geographic Information Science. Will assist in design and development of new certificate program in GIScience and also be expected to maintain an active research program.
A PhD in Geography or closely related field is desired at the time of appointment. ABD status will be considered.

Salary and Benefits
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits available include health, life, and dental insurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement programs. Dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed as 0.5FTE or above are entitled to and eligible for Dependent Tuition Grants. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position.
