Major Duties and Responsibilities
Monitor company departments to identify patentable subject matter.
Attend product design reviews to identify potential intellectual property issues.
Interview inventors to document & describe the scope of their inventions.
Describe the construction & function of an invention in writing to enable development of a patent specification.
Assist in defining the drawings necessary to support a patent application.
Read patent specification drafts for technical accuracy.
Write the description section of draft patent applications.
Monitor changes to company product lines that trigger updates to patent labels.
Develop a working knowledge of IP processes and systems, including USPTO databases.
Intellectual Property Engineer
Education and Experience
BA/BS degree from four year college or university in a technical discipline with one year related experience and or/training; or an Associates degree in a technical discipline with two years related experience and/or training.
Outstanding verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to draft technical reports, descriptions and product evaluations (writing samples required).
Effective multi-tasking skills.
Demonstrated technical innovativeness and creativity.
Demonstrated project leadership skills.
Demonstrated attention to detail.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
