The Intern – Art Direction applies their eye for typography, color and design to making an outstanding creative product. He/she provides conceptual thinking, solid design skills, and expertise in graphic design programs. He/she should also be able to push the boundaries of creative excellence, while ensuring the timely delivery of final product. Must also have the ability to work with members of the creative department as well as team members from other core departments in order to achieve client satisfaction.
Execute creative concepts that are on strategy across all media channels (digital, direct mail, print, TV, radio).
Generate breakthrough ideas and constantly strive for new, better, more innovative solutions.
Handle multiple assignments efficiently, taking responsibility for timing and delivery.
Must fill in the gaps on concepts developed by more senior members of the creative group.
Partner with manager to adapt brands to a direct response environment.
Partner with manager to develop great work within guidelines and budget of the assignment.
Work collaboratively with creative partners, other members of creative and core departments.
Review and sign-off on mechanical proofs on their assignments, such as readers and blueprints.
Partner with manager to work with a variety of formats and materials to bring the concept to life.
Collaborate with Production, Art Buying and Studio to achieve the best solutions for their assignments.
Participate in photo shoots and press runs with more senior department members.
Review and clearly mark up photography for retouching with supervision from senior department members.
Review color separations and provide input to Production with supervision from senior department members.
Stay current with changes in technology and demonstrate technical competence.
Minimum 1 year and/or internship experience in art direction or graphic design.
Must have a strong portfolio of spec or produced work.
Must demonstrate experience/knowledge in direct mail, print, interactive, TV and/or radio production.
Experience working in Flash and HTML-based media
Good sense of animation and layout.
Action-scripting skills a plus
Must demonstrate a strong sense of design
Bachelor’s degree required or in progress
Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
