Community Relations & Communications

department develops and provides all internal and external communications for the Agency; produces multimedia materials utilizing a variety of communication types; conducts community outreach and education to build awareness of SDHC programs and services; maintains the Agency website and social media.

Examples of Essential Job Functions:

Duties and Responsibilities : Writes fact sheets, develops brochures, edits web content, drafts press releases and newsletters, as well as other materials used to reach out to the community. Conducts research, fact checks and produces other media related items such as PowerPoint presentations, digital reports and YouTube videos in collaboration with department staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience : Knowledge of AP writing style; creative and concise writing skills; ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously; proficient internet research, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Publisher, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Typical Qualifications:

Qualifications and Requirements : Full- time enrolled students must be junior, senior or graduate level with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and not graduating before May 2014. Students must attend UCSD, USD, PLNU, SDSU or CSU San Marcos to qualify. Packets include the following and must be complete for consideration:

• Verification of Current Full time Student Enrollment; Major; Class Level; Cumulative GPA; and expected graduation date (verification forms may be requested from the Office of the Registrar at your university).

Education and Experience:

Work Hours : Interns are not to exceed 20 hours per week and are under Agreement with the San Diego Housing Commission for a period of one year. The Housing Commission works a Compressed Work Schedule (CWS) whereby all employees create a schedule within the Agency’s core hours, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, and work the same days and share the same day off. Our offices are closed every other Friday.
