MINIMUM JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Achieve internship placement through the Dow Jones News Fund and complete its training program. Experience with professional or collegiate newspapers preferred, but equivalent news experience will be considered if candidate has strong editing skills. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, or enrollment in accredited college with course of study targeted toward completion of degree, with basic English courses and broad liberal-arts curriculum preferred. Must read widely, show skills and interest in fact-checking, know and apply Associated Press style, and know English usage, grammar, syntax and punctuation. Must be computer-literate. Must be able to check facts using in-house, wire, Internet and other resources. Must have good interpersonal communication skills. Must be able to type articles, budget lines, emails and other essential communications in a timely manner, including on deadline when needed, or be proficient with other methods of producing clear written communications in a timely manner. Flexibility to work nights and weekends.
Editing stories and writing strong headlines, photo captions and display-type treatments on local, national and international content covering a wide range of subjects. Must work with other newsroom departments and colleagues in a professional manner to address questions, issues, etc. on content.
