Basic Functions The Intern will conduct research on various topics related to transit projects and other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities and Specific Duties Transit research projects - METRO initiates numerous special studies to identify and analyze new emerging technologies and processes that support transit projects, increase ridership, or improve efficiencies for the customer and our operations.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) - METRO will be initiating several new projects to support the development of METRO's internal GIS capabilities and interoperability. (This project would require specialized experience in GIS software).
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements Degree program: Business Administration, Planning, Political Science, Geography or related degree.
- Conduct research on various specific topics related to transit projects - Data collection and analysis - Collaborate with other departments and personnel as required - Develop white papers/research documents - Conduct GIS analysis
To be eligible to participate in METRO Intern Program, each candidate must:
Internships with the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) are unpaid opportunities. Selected participants will not be compensated nor will they be provided with relocation and living expenses.
- Be at least 18 years of age - Be currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution and have successfully completed 24 credit hours, or - Be currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution as a Graduate or a PhD student, or - Be a recent graduate (not longer than 1 year) from an accredited educational institution - Have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale - Be able to provide proof of identity (2 forms) - Be eligible to work in the United States.
