The Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) is a progressive business regulatory state agency dedicated to the mission of protecting and serving Oregon’s consumers and workers while supporting a positive business climate.

This position is with the Director's Office. The Director's Office provides DCBS with overall leadership. The director and deputy director provide general supervision over DCBS programs and divisions, as well as policy direction for the department.

The successful candidate will provide management with an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to improve DCBS’s operation. The focus is on the organization’s success through assessment of organization-wide risk and management controls. The internal auditor helps DCBS to accomplish their objectives by using a systematic approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the agency’s risk management, control, and governance processes. The internal auditor audits the agency’s financial systems, organizational performance, and information technology.

The internal auditor assists agency management by examining and evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of the organization’s system of internal control and the quality of performance by examining the reliability and integrity of information, compliance with policies, plans, procedures, laws, and regulations, and safeguarding of assets. The internal auditor also examines the economical and efficient use of resources and the accomplishment of established goals and objectives for operations and programs. The auditor helps management achieve a balanced system of internal control for information technology and assures upper management that the use and control of information systems are consistent with the organization’s overall strategies.

The goal of this recruitment is to fill this position at the Internal Auditor 3 level. However, we encourage candidates who meet the Internal Auditor 2 qualifications (listed below) to apply as we may consider underfilling the position for up to 12 months. Underfill candidates will be paid at the Internal Auditor 2 level salary range of $52,368 - $73,608 annually.

The successful candidate will at a minimum have:

® A Bachelor’s degree in a business related field such as business or public administration, finance, economics, computer science, or consumer protection. AND

® Three years of auditing experience.

A graduate-level degree in any of the fields listed above may substitute for one year of the required experience.

INTERNAL AUDITOR 2 level (Underfill option) (Note: you must meet the qualifications for Internal Auditor 3 within 12 months of hire).

The successful underfill candidate will at a minimum have:

® A Bachelor’s degree in a business related field such as business or public administration, finance, economics, computer science, or consumer projection. AND

® Two years of auditing experience.

A graduate-level degree in any of the fields listed above may substitute for one year of the required experience.


® Effective communication skills.

® Outstanding customer service attitude.

® Demonstrated self-starter, with strong initiative, follow-through, and attention-to-detail.

® Ability and willingness to learn and adapt quickly to changing situations.

® Outstanding problem solving skills.

® Preference may be given to candidates who have certification as an Internal Auditor, Public Accountant, and/or Information Systems Auditor.
