As a result of our continued expansion plans, JDC International is seeking candidates for the role of Customs Counselor. The role will be responsible for the general support functions of our experienced team. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, shipment tracing, customer service, documentation handling (preparing, collecting, distributing), & tariff compliance. This position will have contact with customers, agents, vendors, port brokers, customs, FDA, USDA, and other government agencies.
The successful individual will leverage their knowledge and experience to:
Shipment Tracing: Update tracking systems daily and process shipment prompts
Documentation Handling: Responsible for arranging and handling all shipping documents & processing with port brokers, customs, FDA, USDA, and other government agencies with a basic understanding of customs valuation, classification, audit and trade programs.
Keep Customers, Agents, Vendors, Port Brokers, Customs Brokers informed of status changes in a timely manner.
Assists the team with resolving shipment and compliance issues as required. (I.e. missing documentation, delayed shipments, tariff compliance, tracking of US government trade policy to ensure that all benefits under current or potential trade law can be exercised, entry writing of customs along with pre and post entry audits, etc.)
The ideal candidate should have:
High School education; Undergraduate degree preferred.
Must be able to work Saturdays
Must be able to lift 40 pounds
1-2 years in customer service and transportation industry.
Excellent Communication skills both oral and written.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
FDA and USDA knowledge.
Strong analytic problem solving abilities.
Knowledge of automated systems (AMS, ABI, SAP, ACE).
Microsoft office application usage (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Ability to work successfully in a team environment where work directon will be provided by multiple people (Matrix Environment).
