We currently have a career opportunity for an Intern, Gas Compressors Engineer at our Kearny Mesa facility in San Diego.
Under the guidance of a Mentor, Interns are given a meaningful work experience, a project assignment to complete, and the opportunity to apply classroom education to real work situations. Projects will include rig test setup, data acquisition and analysis applying an understanding of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics. Work will include a mixture of hands-on experimental and analytical studies. Internship opportunities will be available beginning January through May and June through August 2013.
Gas Compressor Engineer Internship positions are designed to provide students with challenging projects in a state-of-the-art centrifugal compressor research facility conducting performance tests. Knowledge gained in our research facility helps to determine future gas compression products. Solar Turbines gas compressors are a world leader in supplying compressors to the Oil & Gas Industries. Our products are used extensively in the production and transmission of natural gas.
Currently in the process of obtaining a minimum of a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
Must have a minimum overall GPA of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Classified as a Junior, Senior, or currently attending graduate school by summer of 2013
Ability to assist in building an experimental rig, working with computerized data acquisition systems, and interpreting results
Previous engineering related internship and/or work experience preferred
Ability to create engineering drawings using Pro/E or AutoCad is a plus
Problem solving skills
High energy level and sense of urgency
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Good business / technical judgment
Ability to handle multiple priorities for a variety of tasks
