To provide language interpretation for limited English proficient patients and families in Patient Care Areas.
Key Functions and Expected Performances:
Serves as an interpreter for limited English proficient patients and families, thus facilitating understanding in communication between people who are speaking different languages. Interprets for patients and providers in the Clinics and Hospitals via the Telephone or On-Site.
The interpreter renders all messages accurately and completely, without adding, omitting, or substituting.
The interpreter limits personal involvement with all parties during the interpreting assignment.
Interpreters should round on the inpatient units during downtime.
The interpreter promotes direct communication among all parties in the encounter.
The interpreter strives to understand the cultures associated with the languages he or she interprets, including biomedical culture.
The interpreter alerts all parties to any significant cultural misunderstanding that arises.
The interpreter maintains confidentiality and does not disclose information outside the treating team, except with the patient's consent or if required by law.
The interpreter shows respect for professionals with whom he or she works. An interpreter does not spread rumors that would discredit another interpreter.
The interpreter dresses appropriately and arrives on time for appointments.
Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury-accident to Manager.
Participates in continuous learning to enhance professional growth
Self - Study, Research pertinent information to prepare for interpreting assignments.
Job requires High school graduate or GED and 1 year of experience or the equivalent.
