exempt; full-time; 40 hours per week; Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; full-benefits

This professional position in the Circuit Court Division and District Court Division of the State's Attorney's Office is responsible for the investigation and case preparation of all assigned felony and misdemeanor matters in the County's jurisdiction. Supervision is received from the Chief Prosecutor - Child Abuse.

Examples of Work:
  • Interview victims, eyewitnesses and corroborative witnesses to assess facts and information regarding criminal offenses
  • Review police records to determine appropriate charges and any case weaknesses
  • Organize and schedule all interviews and investigations in order to meet Court schedule
  • Compile final investigation report for prosecuting attorney prior to trial date and make recommendations regarding the prosecutorial merit of each case
  • Interview and answer official and citizen inquiries in person or by telephone
  • Maintain close liaison with the District Court Commissioners, clerks of the District Court and Circuit Court, police agencies and other agencies
  • Assist in other case preparation as needed
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related field
  • Minimum 4 years of work experience as a Police Officer that includes investigative work, or 4 years of work experience as an Investigator – an additional 2 years of related work experience may reduce the education requirement to a related Associate's degree
  • Possession of a valid automobile operator's license
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Frederick County Employee Driving Permit
  • Considerable knowledge of the rules of evidence and criminal and motor vehicle laws, as well as knowledge of the laws regarding search and seizure, and gathering and maintaining evidence
  • Ability to efficiently and accurately interpret police reports
  • Ability to effectively obtain information through interviews and interrogations
  • Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills, including a thorough understanding of the English language, technical and composition writing and professional correspondence
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with witnesses, associates and the general public
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to deal calmly and efficiently in a pressured environment
PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN FOR :
  • Experience in physical and sexual child abuse investigative work
  • Experience in adult sexual assault and domestic violence investigative work
  • Completion of a certified forensic interviewing course
