This position provides support and transportation to disabled individuals working in community employment and works directly with clients to provide training in community work experiences.
Examples of Duties:
Trains, teaches, observes, supports and evaluates disabled individuals employed at jobs within the community; assists them in performing job duties;
Trains individuals with a disability to satisfactorily and independently perform employment in the community, provides followup and follow along support;
Provides on-site supervision to disabled individuals when needed; Utilizes fading techniques when staff support is withdrawn at disabled individuals work site;
Assists and supervises disabled individuals in performing entry level jobs commonly found in service industries (e.g., fast food, restaurant, housekeeping, etc.);
Acts as liaison between disabled worker and his/her employer and co-workers;
Provides behavior and interpersonal skills training to assist disabled workers to socially integrate with co-workers at place of employment;
Provides training in job related skills (e.g. mobility, personal care/grooming, general community functioning);
Provides community skill training to supplement and enhance disabled worker’s employment program;
Provides transportation for disabled individuals to and from community work sites using personal vehicle or County provided vehicle;
Documents the performance of the disabled worker through updates and written reports, implements data collection procedures to monitor progress and evaluates workers' performance, etc.
Participates in job related training and staff meetings;
Works with community to facilitate positive interactions with persons with disabilities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to learn new tasks quickly and develop training methods for teaching these tasks to disabled individuals. Physically and mentally able to perform entry level jobs commonly found in service industries (e.g., fast food, restaurant, housekeeping, etc.). Sensitive to the needs of the disabled. Ability to work effectively and in a professional manner with the disabled, agency staff, employers, etc. Mature, independent, responsible and dependable. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English. High School or equivalent. Experience working with disabled an/or in industry desirable.
